With school out for summer, it’s time to start thinking about how to keep kids’ minds stimulated and active over the next few months — and Kiwi Crate is here to help! Our Summer Adventure Series is designed to provide a summer full of creative learning and outdoor fun. Each month, you’ll receive a new crate of fresh, engaging science and art activities, each introducing a different educational theme.
June: Camping Trip
Kick off the summer with a camping expedition to explore the great outdoors!
Paint your very own backpack and personalize it with nature shapes, while learning about the science of evaporation. Observe how, as the paint dries, the fabric beneath the shapes becomes bleached by the sun. A DIY glowing campfire set awaits your family — pretend to roast marshmallows and tell campfire stories through the night! Extend the fun with the explore! magazine, where you’ll learn how to have even more fun in nature. Try different activities you might do on a camping trip, such as hiking, bird watching, swimming, and leaf rubbing.
(Bonus gift included: We’ve snuck in a few extra goodies into the June crate — Our bonus summer travel journal includes games, activities, and stories to provide creative ideas for families on the go all summer!)
July: Beach Day
In July, discover the magic of sea creatures and tide pools in this seaside adventure.
Build your own pair of hermit crabs and learn about how they thrive in nature — Did you know that hermit crabs don’t make their own shells? As hermit crabs grow, they need to find bigger and bigger shells to live in! Then, try your hand at color-mixing and use soap bubbles to make a seafoam painting. In this month’s explore! magazine, you’ll learn all about sea creatures, tide zones and how the beach changes everyday. Explore the differences between salt and fresh water with a colorful density experiment.
August: Amusement Park
Play and learn with a trip to the amusement park!
With this crate, build a pair of rolling bumper cars to explore basic physics through collisions. See what happens when objects collide and rebound off one another. Design and create a silly face carnival game — we’ve included a water squirter for extra summer fun! Continue the learning with the explore! magazine, where we we talk about the physics behind roller coasters in a kid-friendly way. Test some of the science behind amusement park rides with a fun and easy experiment.
