Sneak Peek: Introducing July’s Theme!

With summer in full swing, we’re so excited to inspire more outdoor fun with this month’s crate theme: Beach Day! We hope the projects for this month will inspire you to stay creative and stay cool in the summer heat. Come on, let’s explore the beach together!

Kiwi Crate: Beach Day

My Crazy Crabs

Build your own pair of hermit crabs and decorate their shells with colorful stickers. Get active and try to knock the shells of the crabs with the beach ball, or play crab soccer! Learn more about how they thrive in nature — Did you know that hermit crabs don’t make their own shells? They steal shells from other animals, like sea snails. As a hermit crab grows, it needs to find bigger and bigger shells to live in.

My Sea Foam Painting
Then, try your hand at color-mixing and make a sea foam painting with blue and green bubbles! Use a special straw to blow colorful sea foam and watch the bubbles pile up. Add sea creatures to your painting with different colored chalk. Have you ever seen sea foam before? Sea foam at the beach is made when the wind and waves mix water with plants and pieces of sea shells.

In this month’s explore! magazine, go on a beach adventure with Steve the Kiwi. Explore the the different tide zones and see how the beach changes on a daily basis. Visit tide pools and the creatures that live within them, like mussels, sea urchins, and sea anemones. Keep the fun going with a colorful density experiment where you can see the differences between salt and fresh water.

  1. Thanks you so much for the book selections in advance. We always put off doing our crate until we have gotten to the library to check them out. We have been receiving Kiwi Crate for almost 2 years now and we love it.
