Balloon Pet

Balloon Pet

Every time I walk into a market these days, my children gravitate towards those those walking Mylar balloon animals. As cute as they are, their price tags diminish their appeal. So instead, we created our own adorable creatures at home with some balloons and other arts and crafts supplies we had at home.

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. balloons
  2. permanent markers (e.g., sharpies)
  3. construction paper
  4. googly eyes (optional)
  5. ribbon
  6. glue dots
  1. My five-year-old and I made these balloons just for a day of fun...but don't you think they'd be a great party decor idea?

  2. I blew up the balloon, then Emma added on details with a permanent marker. We made a ladybug and a puppy, but there are so many possibilities...

  3. We folded construction paper strips accordion-style to create legs and stuck them on with glue dots. We also used glue dots to add googly eyes and the ribbon leash. I was afraid by using glue it would dry and pop the balloon, but glue dots worked perfectly. Double-sided tape would also work well, I imagine.

  4. Both my kids (ages 5 and 2) had an absolute blast with these little guys. They went on walks, played house, and even fed their little pets. Yes, we are indeed craving a dog in this family, but these balloon pets will suffice for now. Another fun part to this craft was watching them shrink a little each day. My son thought it was hilarious to see his puppy get smaller with each day, especially since the ears and legs stay the same size!
