Giant Medals

Giant Medals

Create a set of your very own giant medals! To share the fun with my kids, we designed our very own medallions. They were delighted with the end results.

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. cardboard
  2. compass (optional)
  3. puffy paint
  4. metallic paint
  5. paint brush
  6. scissors
  7. pencil
  8. hole punch
  9. ribbon
  1. Trace large 4 inch circles on your cardboard. We used a compass, but you can also trace any round object like bowls or jars. Use scissors to carefully cut out the circle along the lines. We made 3 medallions, but you can make as many as you'd like!

  2. Use a hole punch to create a hole in the medallions. This will be the top for of the medal where the ribbon will tie through.

  3. Sketch out your medal design on the cardboard circles with a pencil.

Tip: You'll trace the design with puffy paint, so keep the designs simple for best results!

  4. Carefully trace your design with the puffy paint.  Depending on how much you squeeze, it may take longer to dry so try to avoid large blobs and stick to lines!

Option: For faster results, you can trace your design with a hot glue gun, but adult supervision is recommended.

  5. Step 5:

Once all your medals are traced, let them dry for a few hours

  6. Cover your medallions with a coat of metallic paint. Apply two coats if needed.

Tip: The metallic acrylic paint didn’t stick to the puffy paint very well so we used a sponge brush to dab it on.

  7. Once dried, use ribbon to tie the medals to complete the look! Enjoy wearing your new medals during the opening ceremony and throughout the games.
