How we did it:

Materials List

  1. scissors (1 pair)
  2. double-sided sticky tape
  3. construction paper
  1. Step 1

    Gather your materials.

  2. Step 2

To make the oven,  line up two boxes back-to-back so the bottom sides touch and the lids face out. Pop up the lid flaps on the back box to make the control panel. Pull down the front lid to make the oven door.

  3. Step 3

Use the scissors to cut out the bottom side of each box. Placed the boxes back-to-back again, to create the empty oven space. Tape the boxes to hold them together. Cut off the flaps of the front flap to square off the door.

  4. Step 4

From the extra flaps, cut two circles (each about four-inches in diameter) for the burners. Cut a five-inch strip for the handle, and four one-inch squares to stack below the handle so that it’s raised on each end.

  5. Step 5

Assemble the pieces to make the stove. Cover and tape down the inside of the stove with the construction paper.  Now you have a pretend stove!

  6. Step 6

For the refrigerator, cut off the flaps of your third box lid. From this extra flap, cut a five-inch strip for the handle and four  one-inch squares to stack below the handle so that it’s raised on each end.

  7. Step 7

To make your refrigerator, assemble the pieces with glue or tape.  If you want to add a shelf, an additional piece of cardboard will do the trick!

  8. Step 8

Set up the oven and refrigerator to make your play kitchen. What foods will you cook up?
