Pint-Sized Portrait

Pint-Sized Portrait

Making a collage was one of my favorite things to do as a child. I loved putting together different colors and textures to create a fun image. This was my daughter's first time making one, and she loved it! She loved creating herself as an almost animated form. It was creative, silly, and loads of fun! Best of all...I'll keep it forever.

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. origami paper (or scrapbook paper)
  2. canvas
  3. mod podge
  4. foam brush
  1. Grab all those scraps of pretty paper you save because it's so hard to toss out pretty paper. We had a lot!

  2. My daughter started cutting. She enjoys cutting paper so this was a good task for her.

  3. Once we had a good amount of pretty paper squares, I handed over the glue stick for my daughter to draw a self portrait on the canvas.

  4. We started placing the paper squares to make the image come to life. It was really neat to see it come together. Emma thought about every little detail including trying to find the right shade of pink for her shoes!

  5. Once the paste drawing was covered with paper, we gave it a coat of Mod Podge to seal it to the canvas.

  6. Emma was so proud of her work! She found a special spot in her room to display this self-portrait. I myself will be keeping this sweet piece of art for a long long time.
