How we did it:

Materials List

  1. art paper (or white cardstock)
  2. light-colored crayons
  3. watercolor paints
  4. paintbrush
  1. Watercolors and crayons--that's all this one needs!

  2. The first thing to do was to draw the details.... petal shapes, stamens, leaf detail... whatever she thought should stand out. Light colors are the most impressive, here! Madeleine just outlined, first... then painted watercolors over the crayon markings.

  3. Daffodils....

  4. Tulips.. hyacinths... pansies....

  5. and then more roses....

  6. and "Can we start over (again) with a whole, 'nother sheet, please?" It's always such a surprise and so magical when those first colors start shining through!....

  7. So, so fun.

  8. And so, so bright and cheerful. And so, so pretty!
