Back to School Comfort Charm

Those first days of school can be so scary for our little ones. As a little extra added comfort we made a charm necklace filled with love as a way to comfort my daughter during moments of missing her family.

Ages:
5 - 9
Est. Time:
<1 hour

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. shrink form sheets
  2. scissors
  3. permanent markers (e.g., sharpies)
  4. parchment paper
  5. baking sheet
  6. hole punch
  7. string
  1. Preheat the oven to the shrink form package instructions. I cut large hearts out for my daughter to decorate. Using a hole punch I punched out several holes to make a large opening for the string (the hole shrinks so you need several punches to keep it large enough afterwards.)

  2. Next, my daughter used permanent markers to add a drawing of our family. This is what she felt would comfort her on those first few days of school.

  3. How sweet is that? We placed it on a parchment lined baking sheet and into the oven it went.

  4. After just a few minutes we had this adorable charm. I pulled it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes (adult only step.)

  5. We used twine to turn it into a necklace and my daughter was feeling more confident to take on the 1st grade, already!
