Bendable Bugs

Bendable Bugs

There's no wrong way for these cute bugs to look! Curly legs or straight? Long or short? One eye or six? Purple with orange stripes? Whatever you can imagine!

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. styrofoam balls
  2. googly eyes
  3. pipe cleaner
  4. magnets or magnet strip
  5. scrap paper
  6. glue
  7. scissors
  1. We had small round magnets, but if you don't, then just cut up little circles of advertising magnets to make your own.

  2. I had the first job -- cut the small styrofoam balls in half. Easy enough! After that, it was all the children. First they painted their bugs' bodies.

  3. They let them dry for a few minutes, then they traced around the bodies onto scratch paper.

  4. Maddie and her friend cut out the paper circles, then glued them onto the bottom of the styrofoam bodies, so that magnets could be glued onto the paper later.

  5. Time for getting creative! Some stripes were painted on them. Some polka dots. Sequins? Time for legs! They just snipped bits of pipe cleaner and poked them into the sides of the bodies. They turned them over, added glue,

  6. and placed the magnets.

  7. All done! Perfect for showcasing tomorrow's art project.
