How we did it:

Materials List

  1. paper plates
  2. scissors
  3. tape or glue
  1. We made these special animal plates for our picnic lunch and the kids loved it! They are so simple to make.

  2. The sun was my favorite plate to make. I love how it turned out. For this one, you'll need two yellow plates. One stays whole and the other gets cut into pieces. Using a marker, draw an outline similar to the one shown here and cut along the line.

  3. Use glue or tape to adhere the pieces onto the back of the paper plate.

  4. The whale was my son's favorite plate. Use two blue plates. One of the plates stays whole and the other is for the whale's tail. Draw an outline similar to the one shown here and cut out the tail.

  5. Glue or tape the tail onto the back of the plate. Draw an eye with a permanent marker (optional).

  6. How about a crab? Cut two claws from one of the plates.

  7. Glue or tape the claws to the back of the plate. Draw eyes with a permanent marker (optional).

  8. This fish plate is one that you can get the most creative with as far as colors and shapes. Cut a tail and a fin shape similar to the one shown above from any color paper plate.

  9. Glue or tape the fin and tail onto the back of the fish plate. Draw an eye with a permanent marker (optional).

  10. I decided that we would share food from all of the plates, but you could also give each child their own animal plate to put their food on. These plates would be the perfect accessory for a summer party or an Under the Sea themed birthday party!
