Edible Dirt Cups

Edible Dirt Cups

Dirt cups are a yummy treat and fun activity in one! They're really simple for even the smallest kitchen helpers to lend a hand—and they're inexpensive to make for large gatherings or preschool snacks. This is one of those wonderful treats that both kids and adults adore. My kids love making them and I love eating them!

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. box chocolate pudding mix
  2. cool whip
  3. oreos
  4. plastic cups
  5. milk (2 cups)
  6. gummy worms
  1. Gather all materials. We use a lot of generic products in our house to save money. There is no need for brand-name cookies or pudding for this recipe to be yummy!  I also used about half a package of Oreos for our dirt cups.

  2. Whisk together milk and chocolate pudding mix for 2 minutes. My kids love to take turns holding the mixer. We count to 10 so that each of them can take a turn. This helps my 2 and 3-year-old practice their counting skills and makes it easier for them to take turns since they know that after we count to 10, it will be their turn again. After the pudding was mixed, we let it sit for 5 minutes to thicken up a bit.

  3. While the pudding set, we began crushing the Oreos. The kids had a blast crushing them and it's a great way to strengthen little hand muscles. We just placed them in a Ziplock bag and the kids mashed away. I went back over them with a rolling pin just to make sure they were small enough.

  4. Once the cookies were crushed, we stirred 1/2 cup of crushed Oreos and a tub of Cool Whip into the pudding mixture.

  5. The kids helped me spoon the mixture into our plastic cups. We were able to fill 10 of our cups about 3/4 full and then we topped them with the rest of the crushed Oreos.

  6. The pudding needs to set in the refrigerator for one hour before serving. We made ours in the afternoon and left them in the refrigerator until after dinner for dessert. Then, we took them out and the kids topped their desserts with gummy worms! They were a huge hit!
