Fruit and Vegetable Kabobs

Getting kids to eat their fruits and vegetables can be hard. Making it their idea can be easy. Let them make their own kabobs loaded with fruits and vegetables and they are sure to get all the nutrients they need.

  1. To start I let my kids usually pick the fruits and vegetables they like at the grocery store, and I will add in a few they should try. Then when it is snack time I cut up a variety of fruits and vegetables and with a few wooden skewers I turn things over to them to create their own kabobs.

  2. If younger children are making their own use some caution as skewers can be sharp. I let my kids choose what they want on their kabobs because if it is their idea, they are more likely to eat it. Our only rule is that they have to fill the skewer, and they have to have at least 4 different things. Since I choose what the options are I make sure to mix things up enough that they are pretty much forced to try something new.

  3. Then they get to eat their snack. They slide the pieces off and pop them in their mouth. My 5 year old likes a little ranch dipping sauce for his vegetables but other wise they are good to go with their snacks.
