Lavender Playdough

Lavender Playdough

We are big fans of playdough and lavender in our house. Bringing them together seemed like the perfect way to create a playdough for times when we are winding down from a busy day. You can just smell the relaxation!

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. flour (2 c + 1/4 c)
  2. salt (1/2 c)
  3. cream of tartar (2 Tbs)
  4. oil (3 Tbs) - vegatable or canola
  5. lavender oil (4-6 drops)
  6. food coloring (1-2 drops) - optional
  7. boiling water (3/4 c)
  8. lavender flowers - optional
  1. A little bottle of lavender oil lasts forever and is a great addition to craft supplies. This dough is such a favorite in my house because it is very calming for the kids (and me!) to play with.

  2. Emma helped me to add all the ingredients (except the water, 1/4 c of flour and the flowers) to a large bowl. Once she was done I boiled the water and poured it in directly on the salt. That is my little trick to help disintegrate the salt.

  3. Emma got to mixing. It gets a little hard as it all comes together.

  4. Once it looked like this we dumped it onto a cutting board. I kneaded, adding the remaining 1/4 cup of flour a little at a time, until it was soft, but not sticky.

  5. Lastly, we added some dried lavender flowers for the perfect touch. Smells delicious!
