Monster Felt Board

Monster Felt Board

We had a major car trip coming up and I knew the kids needed something to entertain themselves while sitting in the car all day. We decided to make some monster felt boards to keep the kids

Ages:
4 - 7
Est. Time:
<30 mins

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. felt
  2. googly eyes
  3. glue
  4. scissors
  1. This is an optional step depending on your kid. My daughter wanted to draw out what her monster was going to look like, so she took the time to draw out a monster shape before cutting.

  2. Cut out your monster's body. The genius of this activity and of monsters in general is you can't do it wrong. There is no right answer for what a monster looks like.

  3. Now start cutting out different shapes to make hair, eyes, arms--whatever you think your monster should have.

  4. While Princess cut out various body parts, I glued some googly eyes to small pieces of felt to make different eyes for the monster. Your child could do this, but I wanted to be part of the process because it's fun!

  5. Try out your monster to see if you like what you have. After our first monster creation, we decided our felt friend needed some more add-ons.

  6. Add any monster parts you might be missing...

  7. Take your monster felt board with you into the car and have fun playing. This entertained my daughter for quite a while, and then she took it into restaurants to entertain herself as well. It worked wonderfully.

  8. As a side note. I opted not to glue the background piece of felt to a hard surface for maximum portability. If you want a hard surface for your board, just glue a piece of felt approximately 9x12 onto a piece of cardboard. We decided to keep ours as is so it could be folded up and put into a ziplock bag.
