Packing Peanut Bugs

Packing Peanut Bugs

My daughter loves making bug crafts. She loves reading bug stories. She even loves keeping bugs in a jar. But if a bug dares to cross my Emma's comfort zone and land on her arm, you'll hear her scream from miles away. That's why it's so funny to me how much she loves bugs. Emma was so excited to create some darling bugs today out of packing peanuts.

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. packing peanuts styrofoam
  2. pipe cleaners
  3. markers
  4. googly eyes
  5. glue
  1. Packing peanuts seemed like the perfect shape to create some fun bugs! They are also so squishy and fun for little hands to explore with. It's something I always have in our art drawers.

  2. Emma glued a few together to create a butterfly and stuck little pipe cleaner antennas right into the top.

  3. Markers worked great for the kids to add some color to each bug. Emma spent a lot of time giving her bumblebee the most perfect stripes.

  4. She added some googly eyes to our creatures with some glue and used another snip of pipe cleaner for some itty-bitty wings on her bee. These bugs were so fun for the kids to make and of course to buzz around the house with!
