Plastic Egg Fireflies

How we did it:
Materials List
- plastic egg (1)
- pipe cleaners in various colors (2)
- scissors
- awl or piercing tool
- glue - (hot glue works best)
- googly eyes (2)
- led light (1) - or electric tea light
- patterned or colored paper
-
Gather your materials.
-
We decided to add a personal touch to our firefly wings. Instead of patterned paper, V colored a blank sheet of paper, then we cut out pieces of her artwork in the shape of wings.
-
We started by cutting one pipe cleaner into 6 even pieces. These are the legs. Using the awl, or a sharp instrument, poke 6 holes (3 holes in a row on each side) into the top part of the egg, the pointed part.
-
Insert the 6 pipe cleaners into the six holes, pulling a little from the inside of the egg to secure. Bend the pipe-cleaners to make feet.
-
Next cut the other pipe-cleaner in half. These will be the antennae. Using the awl, or a sharp instrument, poke 2 holes across from each other into the bottom part of the egg, the wide, flat part. Insert the antennae and curl. Next glue on your wings.
-
Then, glue on your googly eyes right below the antennae. Insert the LED light with the faux flame pointed into the pointed egg top.
-
Finally, let your little fireflies play...then switch them on at night and watch them flicker brightly!
