How we did it:

Materials List

  1. play dough
  2. pipe cleaners
  3. tissue paper
  1. Roll pieces of play dough into 3 balls.

  2. Push the 3 pieces together to create your ant. This is a great time to sneak in a little learning about the 3 parts of an insect: the head, the thorax (in the middle), and the abdomen.

  3. Cut small pieces of pipe cleaner to use as the legs. Stick a leg in each section of the insect and bend it up slightly toward the bottom of the pipe cleaner to make feet.

  4. She carried her play dough ant around with her in a bug house all day.

  5. You can also cut wings out of tissue paper and press them into the play dough to make other insects.
