Roses and Hearts Bento Box
How we did it:
- crescent roll dough (1/2 a can)
- ham (deli) (3 slices)
- cheese (shredded mozzarella ) (1/2 cup)
- tomatoes (1)
- yogurt (1/2 cup)
- sprinkles - (red and pink)
- spinach (fresh) (4 leaves)
Lay out the half a can of crescents on a floured cutting board. Place the ham on the crescent roll rectangle. Sprinkle the cheese on the ham. Then roll the crescent rectangle up starting at the narrow end. My son did a great job of keeping the ingredients in the crescent as he rolled it. Then cut the crescent roll into slices and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
I cut the two sides off of a tomato in thick slices and my son made diagonal cuts on the slices of tomato. That created the pointed end of the heart. Then he cut a V in the top of each slice. It was a little tricky. The seeds and gooey part of the tomato were tough to cut through.
Fresh spinach leaves were place in the bottom section of the bento box. My son just randomly placed them in the box. I next added the rolled or rose sandwiches to the bento.
We placed in the tomato hearts in the top section on the right. My son carefully added the vanilla yogurt to the top left section. Yogurt can be hard to transfer. He had to carefully move the yogurt so that it wouldn't go all over.
Sprinkles are really hard to pour in a little at a time. A lot of sprinkles ended up going on top of the yogurt.
Special larger sprinkles were added on top of the pond of small red sprinkles we added. My son carefully added the larger sprinkles in the shape of a heart. Some sprinkles ended up being pushed down too hard and other sprinkles were placed on top of them.
When it was done, my son was able to enjoy a meal he had put his heart into.
