Autumn Placemats

Autumn Placemats

The colours of autumn are always so beautiful. After talking a bit about the changing seasons, my girls wanted to see the colours all the time. So we came up with an easy way to bring some of those pretty colours inside and decorated our table with this fall inspired placemat. The placemat is made with contact paper and small pieces of tissue paper in shades of red, yellow and orange.

<30 mins

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. tissue paper
  2. contact paper
  1. Cut the contact paper to the size of placemat you would like. Cut either two pieces of the same size or one piece twice as long as your placemat size.

  2. Remove the backing from one of the pieces or half of the single piece of contact paper. Tape the contact paper, sticky side up, to a tray or table to hold it in place.

  3. You can either tear your tissue paper into little pieces or buy the pre-cut tissue paper squares. This is what we used. It's much easier to already have the squares made for you.

  4. Stick the tissue paper pieces to the contact paper. Once the paper touches the contact paper, it can not be moved without ripping it. My little girl tried to move some of hers a few times and was quite upset when it ripped.

  5. Once finished, slowly and carefully, place the second piece or half to the covered piece to seal in the tissue paper. My older daughter smoothed out the bubbles and wrinkles. She also cut off any of the contact paper that was still sticky.

  6. Enjoy your pretty placemat.
