Halloween Sensory Bin
This festive Halloween sensory bin is a perfect way to explore the themes of Halloween with your little one. Sensory bins allow children to learn through exploring and using their senses such as touch. They are also great for developing fine motor skills. For this particular bin, they have the added bonus of learning about colors and textures as well.
How we did it:
- dry black beans (1 bag)
- orange colored rice (1 bag)
- plastic storage container
- assortment of halloween themed decorations
- whisk, measuring cup (optional)
Add the rice to a zip lock back and add 6-7 drops of orange food coloring. Zip the bag up and kneed it to make sure all the rice is colored.
Add the rice and beans to the container.
Then add the decorations and toys.
First, my daughter used the whisk to whisk the beans and rice around.
Then she used a pumpkin-shaped cookie cutter to dig in the mixture. She said "pumpkin" for the very first time! She pronounced it as "pumpkey," which melted my heart.
We talked about the colors black and orange that were in the bin. We also used the gourds to talk about texture.
She had a blast doing this activity. She spent around 45 minutes playing with this, which for this busy toddler is a miracle!
