How we did it:
- paint - paintbrushes, tempera, liquid watercolor or acrylic paint
- fabric - Collage materials: Gather any odds & ends that remind you of Valentine's Day... anything pink, red, purple or orange! Tissue paper, fabric scraps, scrapbook paper, buttons, beads, jewels, sequins, confetti, etc.
- yarn, string, twine
- canvas - Heavy weight poster board, cardboard, wrapped canvas or canvas panel
On a heavy weight piece of poster board, wrapped canvas, or canvas panel (canvas on cardboard), start by drizzling lots of paint. We use a variety of tempera, liquid watercolor & acrylic paint. Children can slather it on with a paintbrush and drizzle layers of different shades of reds, pinks, purples & oranges.
Drizzle more glue and attach collage materials. We used buttons, beads, sequins, jewels, shredded paper, fabric, felt & small wooden hearts and tiny little red heart confetti. Anything will work if it is in your Valentine's Day color palette!
Drizzle more paint (are you getting the hang of this?) and a little more glue. Layer, layer, layer! More is more! This project is great for kids from toddlers to teens! The little ones enjoy the movement and the messiness of it, while the older kids enjoy being a little more thoughtful about how they arrange their collage materials.
One final drizzle of paint and....
Sprinkle several different shades and types of glitter & Voila! We used red, pink, purple, orange & opalescent "snowflake" glitter! Let dry for at least several hours (or days...) before presenting to your beloved!
