My kids love running around the house with the felt wands I made them last year. With Valentine's Day coming up, I thought it would be fun to let them make their own heart wands out of paper. This way they could get in on the creating part and then still be able to have fun playing with them. It's a great way for us to spend time together and learn about shapes and colors. The kids were very proud of their creations.
How we did it:
- cardstock (2)
- cardboard from a cereal box (1) - this is optional but gives the heart more durability
- large popsicle sticks (2)
- holiday foam stickers
- glue stick (1)
- scissors (1)
I cut heart shapes out of paper and cardboard for them before we started. ( Some kids may be able to do this on their own.)
The kids glued the paper hearts to the cardboard hearts. (This is optional but I wanted to make the paper stronger.)
Leave room to glue in the popsicle stick. Let the heart wands dry before decorating.
Once the wands are dry, it's time to decorate them! We used holiday foam stickers, ribbon and yarn. I gave both kids several stickers and let them stick them to their hearts. I helped them tie on the yarn/ribbon to the popsicle stick.
Now they both had a fun holiday wand they helped create. The last thing to do was have fun playing with them -- and that they did!
