Popsicle Stick Sled Ornaments
Christmas is the best time for handmade goodies! These easy craft stick sleds were the perfect craft to let the kids design and decorate any way they wanted to. We had a great time going through the craft supplies and personalizing them with glitter, bells, and pom poms. They made the perfect addition to our small trees that we fill with handmade ornaments!
How we did it:
- popsicle sticks
- glitter glue
- various craft materials
- pipe cleaners
Gather all materials. For the sleds, all you need are Popsicle sticks and glue. When it came time to decorate, though, the kids went digging through our craft supplies and found a whole box of Christmas craft supplies from Grandma! I knew those would come in handy one day!
Using five Popsicle sticks, I showed the kids how to form their sticks to look like sleds with one stick going across. The older kids were able to easily imitate mine, but some of the younger ones had trouble and decided to make theirs a little different.
The kids held the sticks down with one hand and with the other made a line of glue going across the top of the sled.
Then, they laid their stick over the top and we let our sleds dry through lunch time.
After lunch, we pulled out the craft materials and had fun decorating. I wrote the younger kids names on theirs in glitter glue and the older kids used it to write their own names. In the past, we've had better results with this using fabric paint. It's a little easier to control.
We also glued pom poms onto some of the sleds. Then, the kids went digging through the Christmas box. They found miniature Christmas plagues, small bears, bells, and tiny pinecone decorations to glue to their sleds.
When everything was dry we used ribbon and pipe cleaners to hang our ornaments on the tree. I love how the different sleds really show the kids' personality!
