Pumpkin Seed Mosaic
Seems like as soon as October hits, I become a professional pumpkin seed-roasting extraordinaire! I love it, but I think we all get a little sick of pumpkin seeds once we hit around the third week of the month. I needed a new use for my seeds and this darling owl was definitely worth the sacrifice of a few pumpkin seeds. My daughter loved creating a seed mosaic. She got really involved in it and was really proud of her finished work.
How we did it:
- seeds (pumpkin, sunflower)
- card stock paper
I drew a few pictures on some heavy duty paper. (Your kids can do this step of course.) I wanted Emma (age 5) to really focus on putting together the mosaic, so I thought starting the first step for her would allow for her to enjoy adding the seeds more.
This was a perfect evening craft. It was calm and quiet. We used pumpkin and sunflower seeds, so Emma was snacking along the way. A nice healthy evening snack.
She was really focused. I loved how she thought about each seed placement. It was really neat to see.
She finished the owl and moved onto the sunflower. They both came out so beautiful. I thought this would be a nice project to make as cards for family. Please beware: If you are looking for a nice place for this to dry, do not choose your yard full of chipmunks. Um, yes....we learned this the hard way, but just another excuse to make more mosaics the next day!
