How we did it:

Materials List

  1. markers
  2. index cards or paper
  3. contact paper
  4. tape - (if your contact paper is only sticky on one side)
  5. scissors
  6. clip board
  1. First, I gathered our materials.

  2. I put two piles of index cards on a clipboard.

  3. I filled this little bucket (from the dollar section of a big box store) with washable markers and placed it in the cup holder of my daughter's booster seat. You could also use a sippy cup without the lid, or any other type of cup.

  4. I had the type of contact paper that is only sticky on one side so I cut a piece off and taped it to the car window, sticky side facing my child, with blue painter's tape.

  5. While we were driving, I asked my daughter to draw the things she saw that were interesting, and stick them to the window after she finished each one.

  6. Here's her project part way through our trip. My favorite one was when she drew a street sign, complete with the street name spelled correctly, while we were stuck in construction traffic.

  7. After she filled up the sticky paper with drawings, we cleared the board and she filled it again. The contact paper held its stickiness for many drawing sessions and my daughter loved this activity.
