How we did it:

Materials List

  1. baking soda
  2. vinegar
  3. balloons
  4. bottle
  5. funnel
  1. Add 4 TBSP of vinegar to the bottle.  To make it more kid-doable, we measured the vinegar into the measuring cup, then H poured the vinegar through the funnel into the bottle himself.

  2.  Then slip the end of the balloon over the end of your funnel and measure 1 TBSP of baking soda into the funnel.

  3. Why it works: When baking soda and vinegar come into contact, they form carbon dioxide. This gas fills the bottle and can't escape, so it rushes into the balloon, causing it to inflate.
