SOLID idea, GREAT way to learn/teach but end product was meh

Anything that can teach a 2 year old some physics is pretty nifty, plus weather and engineering all in one box. Our kiddo loved it but the excitement was quickly met with frustration and some Daddy fabrication (more on that below). This crate really had it all: arts, creativity, physics, cause and effect, and finally some engineering.

The problem lies with the wheel and axle system that is the lynch pin of the whole apparatus. It starts fine but within a day of play the imperfections of the system fail. The wheels aren't held in by much and as they are not quite perfectly round, nor is the whole perfectly centered and ultimately the wheels begin to cant and it takes a blower to move this thing. The idea was solid, the multiple sails were nifty so a little balsa wood, metal axle and same wooden wheels, with a thin layer of adhesive rubber made this thing fun for a good deal longer. I went ahead and provided some additional materials for additional sails so that drag and efficiency could also be realized.

Really great collaborative projects. Just right for our 3 year old!

Was ok. Not as big a hit as other boxes.

It is hard for young children to get good movement even on smooth floor. A little fan would have been cool or something. Overall pretty neat though.
