STEM

At science museums, giant wind tunnels blow air straight up, and you get to watch scarves and balls float like magic. Some tunnels are even big enough for people to fly in. Our Steve is a kiwi, and unfortunately kiwis can’t fly. Now it’s his turn to try. Slide the fan to aim the air and steer him around everything falling from above. Lose a feather with every bump, grab a glowing one to get it back, and hang on as the fan gets stronger. Two minutes in the air makes you a Wind Tunnel Ace.Build a mini version at home with the Wind Play Lab. Drop something in and watch it float, then try things from around the house to see what the air can lift.

prank

Steve climbed up to the attic, and he isn’t alone. Spiders keep dropping from the ceiling beam on silk lines, then zipping back up. Run left and right to stay out of their way, and hop over the goo pits so they don’t slow you down. A faint silk line shows where the next spider will drop, so keep your eyes on the beam. Lost a heart? Grab a new one when it comes down on its own thread. How long can you last?In real life, spiders are great at sensing motion. Tiny hairs and slits on their bodies pick up faint vibrations, like a bug landing in a web. Many spiders also trail a silk safety line called a dragline, and just like in the game, they can drop down on it and climb right back up.Ready to set up a spider surprise of your own? Build the Motion-Sensing Spider, wire up a sensor that spots movement, and watch your eight-legged friend drop down when someone walks by, then reel back up for the next scare.

Shhh... Steve is trying to sleep, but his alarm clock keeps ringing. To turn it off, he’ll have to bounce all the way up to it.In this game, you steer sleepy Steve from pillow to pillow. Each room is taller than the last, from his bedroom to the attic to the rooftop under the stars. Ride the drifting pillows, bounce fast off the flimsy ones, and grab fireflies along the way. Miss a pillow, and the room starts over. How many alarms can you snooze?

Did you know your skull is made of 22 bones? Or that the Moon drifts about 3.8 centimeters farther from Earth every year? Facts like these are hiding behind every word in this game.Pick a science theme, and you’ll get 6 tries to find each hidden word. The color clues show which letters are in the right spot, which are in the word but somewhere else, and which aren’t in it at all. Tap Hint if you need a nudge. Solve all 6 words to complete the theme. Ready to start testing?Want to build with these words for real? Tinker Crate delivers a new engineering project every month.
