Sponge Bullseye

Sponge Bullseye

This activity is a great way to beat the heat of Summer. With just a few cheap materials, my kids were entertained all morning long. Best of all, we got to practice some math skills while the kids had fun in the sun!

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. chalk
  2. sponges
  3. water bucket
  1. Gather all materials. This activity is easy to put together anywhere and only requires a few basic materials. We always pick up lots of sidewalk chalk at the Dollar store.

  2. We drew concentric circles with the chalk to create a bullseye shape. We used different colors to make it more fun for the kids and to give my 2-year-old some practice with his colors.

  3. My 4-year-old and I worked on counting by 10s to fill in the circles.

  4. The kids had a great time throwing their sponges at the bullseye. We played a few different games with this. First, we threw the sponges to see who could get the highest number.

  5. Then, we worked together as a team and tried to see how many points we could get together. I love activities that let me introduce math concepts in a fun way that is easy for the kids to understand.

  6. For my 2-year-old, we drew a line of different shapes. As I drew the shapes, my 2-year-old picked out colors and identified the shapes. Then, we counted the shapes and numbered them.

  7. My 4-year-old helped me count up my 2 and 3-year-old's points and then the kids spent another hour tossing sponges, playing in water, and using the sponges to squirt water on the numbers.
