Love Bug Headband

Love Bug Headband

As a special Valentine treat for our kid testers, we decided to create some dress-up headbands to turn them into little “love bugs”. They had so much fun giggling and playing with their new heart shaped antennas.

Ages:
3 - 8
Est. Time:
<30 mins

How we did it:

Materials List

  1. colored paper
  2. pipe cleaner
  3. scissors
  4. tape
  5. glue
  6. pompoms (optional)
  7. thick marker (optional)
  1. Gather your materials!

  2. Cut a long strip of colored paper for the headband. Wrap it around your head to see how much paper you need. We had to tape two strips of paper to get the right length.Trim off the excess, and lay it flat.

  3. Cut out some shapes to decorate your headband. To make a heart, we cut out a square of paper and folded it in half. Draw a curved half heart shape along the fold. Carefully cut along your lines and unfold the heart!

  4. Glue on the heart shapes to decorate your headband. Once you are done, tape the headband into a loop so it fits around your head.

  5. Start making your bug antennae next. Cut out two large hearts -- these will top off your bug antennas. We glued pom poms in the center of the hearts to add a sparkly touch.

  6. Take a pipe cleaner and wrap it around your finger or the marker, creating a coil. Gently pull the pipe cleaner and tug the ends to stretch out the coil to a desired length. You can also experiment with other ways of bending the pipe cleaners to create a different love bug.

  7. Tape the pipe cleaners to the headband, and tape the hearts to top ends of the pipe cleaners to complete your love bug headband!
