Chalkboard Coasters

Chalkboard paint may be the coolest thing to enter the crafting world this decade! My kids love to turn all sorts of things into chalkboards...and so do I! We came across some old tiles and thought little chalkboard coasters were a definite must-make on our homemade gift list this year!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

    We used two different colors of chalkboard paint. Yes, it comes in colors now! You could keep it simple or stir things up a bit.

  • Step 2

    Emma got to painting each tile with the black paint first. It needs several coats to cover completely.

  • Step 3

    Once the black paint dried, we added some pretty details with the blue chalkboard paint. Emma used a q-tip to make flowers and designs.

  • Step 4

    Again, we let the coasters dry completely. The final step was to add some felt rounds to the bottom to be fully functioning coasters.

  • Final result!

    A test drive was absolutely necessary. What a cool gift!
