Cookie Cutter Soap

This is a darling and easy gift idea that your kids will have so much fun making. We were inspired to make our own soaps from this post on Our Best Bites. The idea is so simple: All you need is a bar of Ivory soap and your choice of a cookie-cutter--and you can make your own soap shapes!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

First, we put our bar of soap on a microwave-safe plate and microwaved it for two minutes. The soap expanded to three times its size, which my niece thought was awesome!

  • Step 2

She put the soap in a large bowl and used her hands to grind up the mixture.

  • Step 3

Then we added the soap to a food processor and added just a tad of warm water (about 1/4 cup). Then we added our food coloring.

  • Step 4

She packed the mixture into a cookie cutter, which she used as a mold.

  • Step 5

Then we let the soap dry before popping it out of the mold. Scrub-a-dub-dub, here's a gift for the tub!

  • Tip

It takes 24 to 48 hours for the soap to dry completely. (If you try to take the soap out before it's completely dry, the soap will come apart.)
