Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

First, we put our bar of soap on a microwave-safe plate and microwaved it for two minutes. The soap expanded to three times its size, which my niece thought was awesome!

  • Step 2

She put the soap in a large bowl and used her hands to grind up the mixture.

  • Step 3

Then we added the soap to a food processor and added just a tad of warm water (about 1/4 cup). Then we added our food coloring.

  • Step 4

She packed the mixture into a cookie cutter, which she used as a mold.

  • Step 5

Then we let the soap dry before popping it out of the mold. Scrub-a-dub-dub, here's a gift for the tub!

  • Tip

It takes 24 to 48 hours for the soap to dry completely. (If you try to take the soap out before it's completely dry, the soap will come apart.)
