Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
I first hot glued a wooden dowel to a square of burlap. This is a step for the grown-up as hot glue is, well, very hot!

Step 2
Emma chose a pretty fall-colored ribbon and cut two pieces for me to tie to each side of the dowel.

Step 3
Now it was time to get those apples out. We just happened to have a large and small apple so of course the kids thought a mama and baby owl would be fun to make.

Step 4
We dipped each apple half into the paint and onto the burlap. Emma was very excited to lift them up to see the apple print she made.

Step 5
We cut some felt into triangles and circles to create owl features, pipe cleaner snips for two little legs, and buttons to add some big owl eyes.

Step 6
Tacky glue worked best for us. The owl was coming together and looking very adorable.

Done!
Look at these cute owls! Emma was one proud crafter, and I was excited to have a beautiful fall flag to display.
