Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Start by grabbing your pom pom winder. Tie some colored yarn in a knot on one end.

  • Step 2

Next, keep winding the yarn around the winder. The more yarn you use the bigger the pom pom will be.

  • Step 3

My daughter said she was getting tired so I wound the rest of the yarn for her. She told me to stop here.

  • Step 4

Adult time! Take the yarn that is hanging and loop it around the middle and tie a knot so that the yarn almost looks split in half.

  • Step 5

Now, pull off the yarn from the winder. I also helped my daughter do this part but older kiddos could do it themselves!

  • Step 6

Next, take your scissors and snip all the loops on either side so that all the yarn is sticking out. (My daughter reads while she waits :)).

  • Step 7

Next, my daughter fluffed out the pom pom and made it look full.

  • Step 8

Take the string part that you left behind when you tied it in the middle and cut it to the length of your book's spine. My daughter cut the length off then I laid the bookmark in the book.

Have fun marking your place with your pom pom bookmark! They also make great gifts!
