Walnut Strawberries

We love to make our own play food out of simple things around the house. We've made felt cookies and pom-pom blueberries--and now, today, strawberry walnuts. These might be the sweetest addition to our little play kitchen ever!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

We have been wanting to add these sweet strawberry walnuts to our play food collection all summer, but had to wait until October for walnuts in the shell to be available in the markets. As soon as we saw them, we nearly did a dance right in the produce department of our local grocery store.

When we arrived home, the kids got right to work painting the walnuts red.

While the walnuts dried, the kids cut out strawberry tops from some green felt.

They used tacky glue to add the leaves right on top of each walnut.

Lastly, we used a black marker to add some strawberry seeds. Now our new fruit was ready for some fun pretend play. The kids think they are fantastic! I was served a lovely assortment of strawberry pie, strawberry lemonade, and just strawberries all afternoon.
