Pretzel Log Cabin

I think all kids love to build things. It just seems natural to them. My kids especially love to build things they can eat. Pretzel log cabins may just be their new favorite, it's a twist on the gingerbread house, perfect for the holiday season or anytime little hands need to build something.

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Start with the basic ingredients, pretzels and frosting. For the frosting I made a simple buttercream frosting so it would be a nice thick "glue" for the construction, any frosting should work just fine. Then I put it into little bags and snipped the corner to make it a little easier for my kids to handle.

  • Step 2

We started by creating a "base". We added frosting to stick the base in place on the plate.

  • Step 5

For the roof we were having a little trouble getting things to stay put so we made roof trusses using a little melted chocolate to stick two pieces together.

  • Final result!

My 5 year old decided he needed snow for his log cabin so we sprinkled it with coconut. Simple and fun and the kids enjoyed eating it as much as they enjoyed making it.
