Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

    Gather your materials.

  • Step 2

    Draw a circle with a compass onto a sheet of craft foam. Make the circle as large as you can without going off the craft foam. Then, cut it out.

  • Step 3

    Fold the circle in half and crease it.

  • Step 4

    Open the circle and fold it in thirds perpendicular to the crease you just made. Then, set it aside.

    Perpendicular means at a 90 degree angle to any given line, plane, or surface.

  • Step 5

    Turn the fortune cookie over and place one hook fastener and one loop fastener about 1 ½ inches (3.81 cm) from the center crease.

  • Step 6

    Write a fortune on a thin strip of paper. We wrote “Happy New Year!” and “Wishing you good luck & fortune in the Year of the Dog!” Then, insert a dollar bill and the fortune into the “pocket” you made by folding the circle in thirds.

  • Step 7

    Fold the fortune cookie in half, connecting the two halves by sticking the fasteners together.

  • Final result!

    Puff up the fortune cookie by pushing in the sides. Now your fortune cookie is ready for gifting!
