Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
Gather all materials. We had a bunch of silver and gold bells from my mother-in-law that worked perfectly for this activity. I had trouble finding brown pipe cleaners so we used red and green ones to give our reindeer a festive touch!
Step 2
Each necklace used one pipe cleaner. I cut the pipe cleaner in half and the kids push 1/2 of the pipe cleaner through the top loop on their bell. Then, they twisted the pipe cleaner to hold it in place.
Step 3
I cut the other half of the pipe cleaner in half so they were each 1/4 the size of the original piece. We used the small pieces to wrap around the larger pieces on the bell to create antlers. The younger kids needed some help with this part.
Step 4
Then, we used tacky glue to attach the eyes and nose for the reindeer. The kids started singing "Rudolf, the Red-nosed Reindeer" during this part!
Step 5
Once everything was dry, we used red yarn to tie the bells into necklaces. I found that we could use a pipe cleaner to push the yarn through the bell slot and push it through to thread the yarn.
Final result!
The kids had so much fun dancing around with their bells and singing Christmas carols. They even wanted to wear them to school the next day. I hope their teachers enjoyed them as much as we did!
