Step 1
Prep: To achieve Steve's peach shade, brew black coffee to serve as the egg's natural dye. For Cricket's greenish blue color, create a cabbage dye. First chop cabbage, and then boil the cabbage in 1 quart of water. Once boiling, bring the mixture to a simmer, cover it, and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
Step 2
Once the natural dyes are ready, use a spoon to carefully place the hard boiled eggs into dye and let them set for 30 minutes. Remove the eggs and let them dry.
Step 3
To create Steve and a little Kiwi Crate box for him to rest on, download the printable, print it out, and cut out the shapes. To make the crate, fold along the lines, slot the two ends together, and tape it closed.To make Steve, cut out the beak, wings, and feet, and fold along the lines. Glue these down on the egg to make Steve. Use a permanent marker to draw on Steve's eyes. Place Steve onto the Kiwi Crate box.
Step 4
Repeat the steps to make a little Cricket Crate for your Cricket egg.To make Cricket's arms and legs and antennas, knot string and measure out 1 inch and cut. Repeat tying knots and cutting until you have 8 pieces of knotted string. Glue the end of each piece to the egg. Use two for the antennas, four for the arms, and another two for the legs. Use a marker to draw the eyes and mouth. Place Cricket into her crate alongside Steve.
