Thanksgiving Snack Mix

Whether you are looking for a snack to tide your family over while you are making Thanksgiving or a fall snack when your kid's got the munchies, this snack mix is perfect. My son loves to eat snacks in packages so, rather than buy prepackaged snacks, we make our own. My son loves eating food he's helped prepare, and I love that I can control the portion size and the quality of the food in the snack mix.

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

The mix starts with the one cup of cranberries. Cranberries make my son's lips pucker a little and add a tang to the snack mix.

  • Step 2

Apricots go in next. They are a favorite at my house. The cup is not totally full because a couple apricots disappeared from the cup before it was dumped in. Can you guess who ate them?

  • Step 3

A cup of mixed fruit that includes chunks of pineapple and slivers of coconut adds color and texture to the mix.

Finally, we add a little crunch to the snack mix by adding the cup of Bugles. Bugles remind me of cornucopias and make a wonderful addition to a Thanksgiving snack mix.

  • Final result!

After stirring the bowl with a large spoon, we spooned the mixture into plastic bags and tied the bags with a bow. We made eight bags of this delicious snack mix. They didn't last long at our house!
