Watercolor Hearts

These hearts were an experiment one afternoon. As we colored some heart cut-outs we added a few drops of water and watched how beautiful the colors ran into each other. It then became the perfect heart for Valentine's Day.

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

I cut some hearts from watercolor paper so that our hearts would absorb the water well, but you could really use any kind of paper for this.

  • Step 2

The kids colored their hearts with washable markers.

  • Step 3

They were really excited to get to the next step and drop water over the colorful hearts. They love to use droppers! The colors mixed and swirled together and made our hearts so beautiful.

  • Done!

We could have stopped after the water, but once they dried we decided some glitter glue would make these hearts even more fabulous! Glitter glue is always a winner in our house!
