Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
First make sure that you have all your supplies laid out and ready to go before you grab your child. This will drastically cut down on the mess and will make it more enjoyable for you and your little one by ensuring that you won't have to run around, leaving your tot alone with temptation, looking for what you need. Lay out your paper and squirt just a little of the paint on a plate for easy access. After a few trial runs, we actually found that by mixing two colors on the plate instead of one it turned out much more pretty!
Step 2
Have your toddler dip their right foot into the paint (you may need to help guide their foot). At this point they may give you a suspicious look, I think my daughter was thinking, "you are going to LET me put my foot in this?". Let them know that for this activity, yes, they get to dip their feet in paint! Yippee!
Step 3
Guide their foot to the paper and have them imprint their right foot on the paper with their big toe parallel to the opposite side (left) of the paper.
Step 4
Now repeat with the left foot and have the left big toe parallel to the right side of the paper.
Step 5
We made several butterflies all on one big piece paper.
Step 6
She didn't want to stop since she was having so much fun. I let her go free range with the paint, paper, and her feet, on a separate piece of paper.
Final result!
Now add antennas using your fingers dipped in paint and then draw bodies on the butterflies with markers.
