Step-by-step tutorial
Step 1
In your cup, mix 2 teaspoons of dry chia seeds with about one half cup tap water. Set this aside to soak while you build your sponge structure.
Step 2
Decide on what kind of structure you want to make with your sponges. We made a tall skyscraper by gluing two sponges together. We found that while white glue does the trick, hot glue is most effective.
Step 3
We also made a short skyscraper by cutting one sponge widthwise and hot gluing the pieces together. We then glued the skyscrapers side by side on a base of two sponges.
Step 4
After all the glue was set, we cut up one more sponge into small squares for windows and decoration on the skyscrapers, and glued them on.
Step 5
Set your sponge structure on a plate.
Step 6
Use a spoon to generously spread your chia seeds over your sponges. And sprinkle the wheat berry seeds in the areas that you want those to sprout. (Wheat berry seeds are the same seeds that sprout wheat grass)
Step 7
Set your plate somewhere with gentle sunlight and fill your plate with water. Then put water in your spray bottle and liberally spray your seeds and sponges.
Step 8
Place your clear container over your sponges and plate to act like a greenhouse. Make sure that your greenhouse is somewhere warm, like near a window that gets some sunlight.
Final result!
Your seeds should sprout in 2 to 3 days. Make sure to use your spray bottle to give the seeds lots of water, 1 to 2 times a day. Once you see green sprouts, remove the greenhouse to prevent mold growth. If you see your sprouts wilting, move them out of direct sunlight and make sure to water them more often.
