Fall Leaf Votive

Two of our favorite things about the fall season - the changing color of the leaves and Thanksgiving - come together in this DIY. We love how this project incorporates hunting for your favorite leaves outdoors along with making and creating indoors. It was fun and easy for the kids, and the votive looks lovely on our Thanksgiving table.

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

Head outside to collect your favorite leaves. (This - along with lighting our votives - was our favorite step!) To get any dry leaves ready for the votive, you may want soften them by soaking in warm water for a few minutes.

  • Step 2

Cover the jar with a layer of mod podge. Arrange the fall leaves over the glued surface, and layer tissue paper in the gaps and over some leaves. Dab the surface with more modge podge (not too much, just enough to keep the pieces in place).

Let it sit until dry (overnight), or use a hairdryer to speed up the process.

Once the votive is completely dry, place your tea light inside the jar and light it up. Enjoy your new table decoration!
