Pick-Up Sticks

This is a classic game that only requires a tool to cut a few straight sticks. Something fun for a venture into the wood...or into the wild of your own backyard.

  • Step 1

    You'll only need a tool for this one... so you can wander and find a few straight sticks.

  • Step 2

    We decided upon a good length. I handed Maddie and Trev each a sample stick, and said: "go cut some straight sticks this long."

  • Step 3

    They found them and stripped them.

  • Step 4

    Then they cut them...

  • Step 5

    and, when there were a dozen sticks or so, we had a game!

  • Step 6

    It had been a while since we'd played! I had to remind them that the object is to pick up the most sticks, one at a time. When another stick moves during your turn, your turn is over.

  • Final result!

    This is their new favorite game!
