My Own Bird Wings

This was so simple, but the amount of creative play that came from it was absolutely priceless. My kids played for hours in the most magical, imaginative way. All it took to inspire them was a few feathers.

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

We put some feather boas to good use on this afternoon...and it only took about one minute!

  • Step 2

I had my daughter help me to find the string in the center of the boa. We pinned it on each wrist and twice on the back of the shirt. (You may need to cut the boa if it's too long for your child's arm-to-arm length.)

  • Step 3

To create a wing look, I added some slack between the pins. It creates a swoop, which is good for flying!

  • Final result!

When my daughter put her wings on she giggled with excitement, and immediately became a little blue jay lost in our yard.
