Sock Puppets

Sometimes you need a simple project that will keep the kids entertained on a rainy day. For those days, there is nothing better than the classics, like sock puppets. And if your laundry room is anything like mine, than you likely have a basket of mismatched socks just calling out to be made into a puppet. Fast and easy entertainment!

Step-by-step tutorial

  • Step 1

For our sock puppets, we used kid socks so they would be a good fit for little kid hands, but any size will do. We also grabbed fabric markers for a quick and easy way to decorate and some pom-poms for a little something extra.

  • Step 2

Before I let the kids go loose on the socks, I folded the top part of the sock so that the heel would be the inside part of the puppet's mouth. This helps the kids understand where the face should go.

  • Step 3

Then the kids decorated the base of the sock to be the outfit (pink polka dots for my girly girl). The kids also glued a pom-pom on for the nose.

Using fabric markers, they added the details of the face.

Then the puppets were done. Quick and easy and the puppets were off performing jokes and telling stories. Also as both kids pointed out, they could wear them on their feet still and have puppet feet. A total bonus to the sock puppet.
