    This neato experiment only needs a few ingredients that everyone will have!

    We poured the water into the jar. Maddie filled it about 2/3 full.

    Next went in the oil--about 1/3 of a cup or so.

    One single drop of food coloring...

    There it is, there...what is it doing? Hmm...just sitting there, resting at the bottom of the oil...

    Maddie shook on some salt.....

  • Final result!

    Oil is less dense than water, so it floats on top of water. When salt is dumped on, it sinks through the oil taking some of the oil with it to the bottom of the jar. As the salt dissolves in the water, the oil rises back up to the top of the jar.... creating movement over and over again. Go ahead! Put more salt in! Then do it again!!
