Faux leather is known by many names: vinyl, artificial leather, vegan leather, PU leather, and pleather. Most are made with a plastic coating to imitate the look and feel of leather, but some are made from natural materials like cork or even pineapple leaves!
Artificial leather can be found in many places, from car seats to clothing, but why is it used? It's cheaper than real leather, easier to work with, not made from animals, and comes in a variety of fun colors.
Looking for something to do with the crate everything came in? If you enjoyed sewing with this project, try turning the box into your own sewing basket! With some help from an adult, you can make holes in the cardboard and sew through them using the same method you learned when making your faux leather portfolio.
Try adding various pockets and storage compartments. For an extra dash of color, you can glue a layer of paper or fabric to the inside.
