Behind the design
Peek into the KiwiCo product design studio and the design process behind the Eureka Crate Cornhole Catapult.
- To fine-tune the catapult’s throw, we gave early prototypes adjustable throwing arms, adjustable crossbars to stop the arm, adjustable rubber band hookups, and more. But adjusting piece by piece was pretty complicated. We realized the simplest way to fine-tune the throw was just to make the whole catapult adjustable by adding angle brackets to the front.
Angle Adjustment
- As you can see from above, we also tried a bunch of different scoop designs to hold the bean bags. This one here was based on a lacrosse stick! Unfortunately, even though lacrosse can be a rugged game, this stick design wasn’t rugged enough to withstand the force of the catapult. (If you look closely, you can see where it cracked.)
Scoop, There It Is!
- …OK, not really. Sure, we scored a few hole-in-one shots while designing, but that was out of at least 1,000 test shots we took with different catapult designs. Practice makes perfect.
